County Show

In July Haylands Farm had the opportunity to be involved in the County show. We were asked to produce a garden 4 x 4 m with the theme of ‘wildchild’. The garden was produced using planting which supported wildlife and invertebrates. Planting included Salvia, Verbena, Grasses, Dianthus and Echinacea. There was an area to encourage bugs, birds, bats and solitary bees and a bee hive for the aspiring back yard beekeeper.

The timber materials were sponsored by Jewsons. The planting and bug hotel was produced with the help of students and staff within the woodwork and horticultural area. It was erected and planted up over a period of one week and immediately attracted the local wildlife.

The County Show judges awarded our garden a gold medal certificate which we were very pleased with.
